How Often Should I Update My Website?
This is a question we get asked a lot by clients – how often should I update my website?
Well, believe it or not, it’s quite a vague question – you have to answer this question first…
Are you talking about your website content, or your website layout?
Because then, you’ve got two very different answers!
Updating Your Website Content
How often should I update: The answer is as often as you need to!
Even vaguer – sorry!
Basically, if you think you’ve got some content that needs an update, or you want to add in some additional content (chock filled with keywords), then you should just do it!
When you update your content, you’ll also be telling Google Bots to start scrolling through your pages, giving it all new content to index.
And the more times they search, the better Search Ranking you’ll have – so new content and better ranking – awesome!
Updating Your Website Layout
How often should I update: Well it depends, does your website fit these conditions?
- It’s mobile friendly
- It’s been updated in the last 3 years
- You’re really happy with it!
Only when you achieve all 3 of these conditions should you leave the layout of your website alone!
If you don’t have a mobile friendly website, you could be missing out on a lot of traffic! Google says 61% of users are unlikely to return to a mobile site they had trouble accessing!
And 40% will just go to your competitor – I bet they’ve got a mobile friendly site!
If you haven’t looked at updating your website in the last 3 years, it’s likely that it might be “out of style”, so have a look at what your competitors are doing, and try to replicate their update!
Always think – be user friendly for the best results!
An Important Point
Have you asked yourself “should I update my website?” – If you’re asking that, then you should be!
It’s likely that if you’ve asked that important question, you believe deep down that the layout or the content just isn’t right and needs to change!
So make sure you’re doing what’s best for your online business, and make sure your website is ready!
